HOW MANY SHALL I ORDER?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions our customers have. The answer should be based on several considerations, some of which are quite apparent. A menu or price list with time-value information obviously would require only enough to last until the information becomes outdated. Business stationery or brochures with a somewhat longer lifetime could be ordered in greater quantities.

As a general rule, it is far more cost efficient to order the largest quantity needed for the lifetime of the information on the piece. After the initial costs of negatives, plates and press setup, which are covered in the first few sheets, the only added cost for additional copies will be cost of paper, press time and perhaps bindery time. With a press speed of 7,000 per hour, you can imagine how little an extra thousand would cost. For instance, one form may be priced as follows: 100 copies $38, 500 copies $41, 1,000 copies $46, 2000 copies $55, 5000 copies $83 and 10,000 copies $130. It should be noted these prices are shown to stress a point and could vary as paper and press costs vary.

When ordering photocopy jobs, this quantity vs cost advantage will not be great since there are hardly any setup costs to a copy machine. On the other hand, a copy machine is a very costly way to duplicate large runs from one original.

We usually quote various quantities for specific jobs to help the customer make an educated decision. Several hundred dollars could be saved by applying this knowledge.

HELP YOUR PRINTER

GIVE BETTER SERVICE

Prepare copy clearly. Contacting customers for clarification can be time consuming.

Order paper that is either carried in stock by the printer or is easily obtainable. Some paper can only be ordered through the mill and may take weeks.

Give the quantity when entering an order, don't wait until after the proof is submitted. Paper can only be ordered as soon as the quantity is known. Many days can be saved by doing this.

Order several similar jobs at the same time such as letterheads and envelopes or several different business cards. In this way more work can be produced while the press is inked up in special colors. Also certain jobs may be ganged thereby saving time and money.
